Luise Metelka of Flight Coffee in Wellington won the New Zealand Specialty Coffee Association 2021 Meadow Fresh New Zealand Barista Championship on the 21st of March, 2021. Luise also took home the award for Outstanding Milk Beverage.
The runner up award went to Hanna Terramoto of Woozoo Group and Frank Hsu of Frank’s in Wellington placed in third. The People’s Choice and Best Newcomer Award went to Jae Ho Shin from Tob Coffee.
Luise commented on a her Instagram @wanderluise, “I was over the moon when I heard that [La Marzocco] is one of this year’s sponsors!”
The competitors competed using the La Marzocco 2 Group AV Linea PB. The PB is an espresso machine that is found in cafes and restaurants all across New Zealand, and that was a big factor in choosing the espresso machine for the championship. We believe the competition should feel accessible to all and having a machine that competitors could easily get their hands on was important to us.
La Marzocco New Zealand offers our congratulations to Luise and we look forward to following her journey as she goes on to represent New Zealand in the World Barista Championship in 2022.
